What It Is

PSYCHOTHERAPY

pSY·CHO·THER·APY

1.     noun
Psychotherapy is the use of psychological methods, particularly when based on regular personal interaction, to help a person change and overcome problems in desired ways. Psychotherapy aims to improve an individual's well-being and mental health, to resolve or mitigate troublesome behaviors, beliefs, compulsions, thoughts, or emotions, and to improve relationships and social skills. Certain psychotherapies are considered evidence-based for treating some diagnosed mental disorders.

Have you been experiencing feelings of sadness lately? Feeling anxious or overwhelmed by work, school, or everyday life stressors?  Maybe you are struggling with a difficult relationship that has you feeling stuck or unsure of what direction to go in next.  Let’s work together to explore what may be causing you emotional distress. As a licensed psychologist I am trained in different psychotherapeutic interventions such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness techniques. I work collaboratively with clients to identify treatment goals and determine what modality of therapy will be best tailored to meet their needs, foster personal growth, and enable positive change.

Treatment ApproacheS

Psychodynamic therapy

Psychodynamic therapy facilitates an understanding of the root causes of one’s emotional distress or personal suffering. Through the use of self-exploration, introspection, and the relationship between patient and therapist, problematic patterns of behavior and relationship issues are uncovered. Thus, providing a pathway for deep understanding and personal change occur.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a goal oriented, problem-solving approach that focuses on exploring a patient’s relationship to their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal of CBT is to help patients gain tools needed to change unhelpful patterns of thinking or harmful beliefs that may be causing difficulties in their life.
